Week D

Stage 2

These learning activities are designed to be completed in sequence beginning on Monday

Daily Prayer

Religious Education

Learning Intention

We are learning to recognise God through the expression of liturgical feasts and seasons.

Success Criteria

I will know I am successful when I:

  • can name the liturgical seasons of the Catholic Church

  • can connect feast days to liturgical seasons

S2 demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of prayer as having many different forms, and as being intrinsic to the Mass and the celebration of the liturgical year.

You will need

Paper

Lead Pencil

Device

Activity

Read about the Liturgical Seasons.

Create your own liturgical wheel.

The information in the wheel should be:

  1. Liturgical season

  2. Feast day

  3. Liturgical colour

Describe the key event(s) in Jesus’ life associated with each season of the liturgical year.

Questions to support my thinking

Activity too hard?

  • Read about the Liturgical Seasons.

  • In your books create a list of the Feast days you recognise

  • Find the liturgical colour of the feast days in your list.

Activity too easy?

  • Use this site to help you locate the colours of each liturgical season and create a table. Use your colour pencils to record the colour of the following feast days.

  • Good Friday

  • first Sunday of Advent

  • Holy Saturday

  • Ash Wednesday

  • Epiphany

  • Christmas

  • Feast of All Saints

  • Palm Sunday

  • Complete Independent Reading as outlined on the slides.

  • Complete Independent Writing as outlined on the slides.

Questions to support my thinking

Activity too hard?

  • Look at the cover and make a prediction about what you think is going to happen in the story (instead of the 'Anticipation Guide').

Activity too easy?

  • Choose one of the statements on the 'Anticipation Guide' that you can relate to and explain your connection.

MONDAY

Resources

Mathematics

Learning Intention

We are learning to measure lengths in centimetres and metres.

Success Criteria

I will know I am successful when I can:

  • estimate lengths using centimetres (cm) and metres (m)

  • measure accurately using a tape or a ruler

  • compare measurements and find the difference.

Aligned to Mathematics outcomes

MA2-9MG Measures, records, compares and estimates lengths, distances and perimeters in metres, centimetres and millimetres, and measures, compares and records temperatures.

You will need

Lead Pencil

Paper

Ruler/Tape measure
string/wool

Activity

Long jump!

Can you jump as far as your height?

Estimate how far you think you can jump. Can you jump further than 1 metre?

Go outside and jump as far as you can from one spot to another.

Do this five times.

Measure and record your jumps in m and cm.

Show your results in a table.

What is the difference between your best jump and your worst jump?

Questions to support my thinking

Activity too hard?

  • Cut a piece of string, wool or a strip of paper one metre long. Start at one end and see how far along you can jump.

Activity too easy?

  • How close to your height can you jump?

  • If the longest jump in the world is 8.95 m, how close is your best jump?

Brain Breaks

Be sure to take a break at least every hour or so.

There are some ideas in the slideshow, but feel free to come up with your own activities.
