  • recognise the difference between a simile and a metaphor.

  • identify the qualities being compared in similes and metaphors.

  • explain how similes and metaphors help readers to use their imagination while reading.

  • TASK B Choose one example of a metaphor and one of a simile from the list. Illustrate in your book to show what you imagine when you read these comparisons.

  • Imagine you were diving underwater...compose a paragraph which describes the scene underwater and what you are seeing using 1 or 2 metaphors or similes of your own.

Mathematics

We are learning to estimate, measure and compare angles using degrees.

Success Criteria

I will know I am successful when I:


  • solve problems involving shapes and angles

  • explain how the size of an unknown angle in a diagram was calculated

  • give clear explanations of my thinking.

MA3-16MG: measures and constructs angles, and applies angle relationships to find unknown angles.

Work out the exact size of as many of the angles in this shape as you can.

Explain how you worked them out.

  • What do you know about the angles in a rhombus that could help you?

  • A straight line has 180°. How can this help you?

  • Use a protractor to draw the diagram.
