We are learning to present two sides of a debate based on the topic of the representations of gender in advertising.

Success Criteria

I will know I am successful when I:

Activity

All work for today is in the slides, to the right.

  1. Create the affirmative and the negative arguments for a debate about representations of gender in advertising.

Questions to support my thinking

Activity too hard?

  • If you are not sure about creating the debate, you could list the arguments in a table and put your examples in the table as well.

Activity too easy?

  • If you find this interesting, you could select whether you wish to write the first, second or third speaker’s debate. You could even have a go at writing retorts for the opposite debater’s speech.

Mathematics

Learning Intention

To find the solution when given a simplified algebraic term as an answer.

Success Criteria

I will know I am successful when I:

  • use various operations involving algebraic terms.

  • use my knowledge of factors to help with algebraic expressions.

  • use a number of different expressions to give the same answer.

Activity

Main Task

My mum checked my maths book at home. For one of the questions, I had the answer of 125𝓍2𝑦. She asked me what the question was, but I couldn’t remember. My mum always wants me to write the question out. She decided that my new homework would be for me to figure out what the question could have been.

Write down what the question could have been in at least 3 different ways.

Consolidating Task

Find as many ways to write an expression that simplifies to 216ab2 .

Questions to support my thinking

Activity too hard?

  • Simplify 3 x b

  • Simplify 3a x 2b

  • Simplify 4𝓍 x 6𝑦

  • Simplify 2𝓍 x 4𝓍 x 5y

  • What could be the question if the simplified answer was 36ab?

Activity too easy?

  • Find as many ways to write an expression that simplifies to 560a2b3c3 .

  • Find as many ways to write an expression that simplifies to ⅓ r3s2t3 .

  • Use algebra to show the side lengths of a rectangle when the area is 48𝒙2𝗒 cm2

Brain Break(er)

This week's brain break tasks have been designed in response to the upcoming 'Un Climate Change Conference' to be held in Glasgow. You will be challenged to take small steps to measure the impact we, collectively, have on our environment.
