Week 5

Stage 4

These learning activities are designed to be completed in sequence beginning on Monday

Daily Prayer

Religious Education

Learning Intention

We are learning to make meaning of Church teachings in light of Scripture, the application to our lives and the mission of the Church.

Success Criteria

I will know I am successful when I:

  • can name the Principles of Catholic Social Teaching

  • can breakdown the factors that contribute to poverty

  • can recognise next steps to combat poverty

Aligned to Sharing Our Story outcomes

C4.6 explains links between Christian life, fidelity to Church teaching, conscience, and inspiring people of faith

C4.7 explains ways in which prayer and spirituality are faith responses central to the life and mission of the church

Activity

Open the Lesson Work document for today where you will:

  1. name principles of Catholic Social Teachings & Church tradition.

  2. identify some causes that lead to poverty

  3. suggestions for actions to combat poverty

Questions to support my thinking

Activity too hard?

Activity too easy?

  • Have a look at the many encyclicals on this site, and discover what they are about.

English

Learning Intention

We are learning that specific representations in advertising can appeal to different audiences.

Success Criteria

I will know I am successful when I:

  • organise my ideas for an advertisement.

  • apply my ideas to a digital storyboard.

  • produce an advertisement that uses a variety of representation techniques to appeal to a gender.

Aligned to English outcomes

EN4-8D Identifies, appreciates and considers cultural expressions in texts

Activity

All work for today is on the slides, to the right.

  1. Design an ad that would appeal to the opposite gender.

Questions to support my thinking

Activity too hard?

  • If you are not sure about creating the ad, you could list, in dot form, the scenes of the ad. You do not have to represent it in pictures, simply list what would happen in the ad. Have fun thinking about what would best be accepted by the opposite sex for the product you have selected. You could always ask someone of the opposite gender what they think about your idea too.

Activity too easy?

  • If you find this interesting, have a go at creating the ad. You could use any application to create it. Go on, have some fun with extending your production skills.

S4 English - Term 4, Week 5: Task 4

Mathematics

Learning Intention

Understand the Cartesian plane.

Success Criteria

I will know I am successful when I:

  • plot points correctly on the Cartesian plane.

  • use reasoning to choose points on the Cartesian plane.

Aligned to Mathematics outcomes

MA4-11NA Creates and displays number patterns; graphs and analyses linear relationships; and performs transformations on the Cartesian plane.

Activity

Main Task

One corner of a rectangle is at the point (1,3).

What could the coordinates of the other points be if the perimeter of the rectangle is 24 units?

Give two possible solutions, at least one must use all four quadrants of the Cartesian plane.

Consolidating Task

One corner of a rectangle is at the point (-3, 5). If the perimeter of the rectangle is 36 units, what are the coordinates of the other corners?

Give two possible solutions.

What if the rectangle is completely in Quadrants 2 and 3?

What if the rectangle is completely in Quadrants 1 and 2?

Questions to support my thinking

Activity too hard?

  • Where is the original point? What if one side of the rectangle was (4) units. Where would this line go? What would the other side have to be to make the perimeter 24 units?

Activity too easy?

  • One corner of a rectangle is at the point (-2, -5). If the area of the rectangle is 48 cm², and it is in all 4 quadrants, what would be the coordinates of the other corners? Give two possible solutions.

  • What if the rectangle was completely in one quadrant? Give two possible solutions.

Brain Break(er)

This week's brain break tasks have been designed in response to the upcoming 'Un Climate Change Conference' to be held in Glasgow. You will be challenged to take small steps to measure the impact we, collectively, have on our environment.

Week 5 - S3-5 - Term 4 Brain Breaks
